She was left in charge of three younger children whilst her parents went visiting. By some means her clothes* caught fire, and when a neighbor arrived they were almost completely burnt off. She was sent to the hospital in a critical condition. KILLED BY MISHAP. Invercargill, Jan. 4. At the inquest on Joseph Patrick Crengle, who was killed whilst attempting to board a moving train at the Bluff, the evidence showed that he caught hold of the carriage rail but missed his foothold and went down between the carriages. A verdict of accidental death, no blame being attachable to anyone, was DAGGER OF FIREARMS. Dannevirke, Jan. 4. At the inquest on the boy John French Baines, who was accidentally shot at Ormondville by his brother, the father gave evidence that he had last used the gun found by the children two months ago, but he could not remember whether he had removed the cartridge on the last occasion it was used. The jury returned a verdict that the boy died as the result of a gunshot wound in the chest, fired accidentally by his brother, Alfred Baines, the latter not knowing that the gun was loaded.
