Stratford resumed its normal appearance to-day, when most of the visitors for the races had departed. During the holidays the public behaved in an exemplary manner, and the police were not called upon to exercise their authority, no arrests being made. Sergeant Dale desires to thank the public for the response made to his arrangements for coping with the extraordinary traffic. December was a comparatively dry month in Stratford, rain falling on only nine days, the heaviest fall being 1-68 inches on the loth. The total fall was only 3.96 inches. The figures for the individual days were:—sth, .02; 6th, .84, 10th, .05; 11th, .44 15th, 1.68, 16th, .10; 17th, .05; 18th, .12; 27th, .66. A total of 8-Ilin, fell at Inglewood during December, heavy falls being recorded on the Oth (1.31'in..), 7th (2.25 m. 15th (2.15 in and 27th 1.22 in.) Rain fell on nine other days, but the only considerable fall was .60in. on the 10th. The mean rainfall flor December over 38 years is 7L72in. For the year 125.72 in was recorded on 180 days, the average annual fall for 38 years being 105.76 in. Mr. L. C. Vicaxy, who has accepted the position of electrical engineer to the Stratford Borough Council, in succession to Mr. E. F. Hollands, arrived in Stratford yesterday. For the past two and a half years -he has occupied the position of testing engineer to the Christchurch City Council, and previously was on the staff of the Christchurch Tramway Board, and also the Blackball Coal Company on the West Coast. He has also been connected with the well-known electrical engineering firm of Turnbull and Jones. Mr- Vicary served his apprenticeship in England, and was for four years with the Liverpool Corporation. Mrs. Vicary will come to reside in Stratford later.
