NAVAL POLICY.
CONTROL OF THE PACIFIC. DOMINIONS WANT A HAND. ATTITUDE OF CANADA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Jan 3. Tlib announcement that the Canadian Government is transferring the squadron presented to Canada to the Pacific, where it will act in full harmony with the American command, has drawn sharp attention to the importance of the Dominions’ views. In the naval discussions and the recent controversy in the Press concerning submarines there was a marked absence of consideration of the Dominions’ position, and the British Government does not seem to have remembered the desirability of the Dominions being represented upon the committee that is now discussing the naval policy. The Standard announces that the Government has r > ved a very definite intimation from ..'anada and Australia that they want a hand in Pacific questions. Canada adds that, if her wishes are not acceded to, the project for a Canadian Ambassador at Washington will proceed.
QUESTION OF DISARMAMENT. A FRENCH VIEW. Paris, Jan. 3. The Temps, commenting on the American and Canadian naval bases, and the position of Australia, New’ Zealand and Canada in regard to the American fleet aa a protection for themselves, says it is impossible to pretend that the American armament is a menace to British interests. The first step to check ruinous competition is to persuade America to stop building large warships. It is necessary to discover whether Japan means to continue her naval armaments, and Britain, her ally, might question her.
