OFFICIAL WAR HISTORIES.
DELAY IN PUBLICATION. A correspondent in the Dominion draws attention to the delay in publishing the official war histories. Volume one, he says, was published a year ago, and he understands that volumes two and three are ready for the printer. As a matter of fact, volume two, which deals with the fighting of the New Zealand division in France, has been ready for a long time, but there has been some trouble with the publishers, because it was found to J>e twice the stipulated length. Naturally the publishers could not undertake to produce a book double thg size of the Gallipoli one at the same cost, and it became a question of cutting down Colonel Stewart’s manuscript, or publishing it in full, and paying more for the book. The whole question is a legacy from the late Minister for Defence to' the new Minister. and he is having some trouble over it.
