THE HOME MARKETS. LATEST PRICES RULING. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 24th Instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London : "Meat.—Market Irregular this week, and prices have fluctuated considerably. Good supplies of fresh and Continental meat available. Demand running on poultry and pork. Supply chilled beef available yesterday for Christmas trade. Average closing prices, home killed :—Beef, Is 5 d; mutton Is 7d, lamb 1» 10 %d per lb. Imported trade good. New Zealand arrival passing into consumption rtudily. Uruguay pigs have just arrived, purchased st 14s 4d on boat; during the last fortnight selling slowly at Ils 4d. "Butter.—With good supplies market is easier. Irish spot offerings consist chiefly of« over stored supplies for which demand is slow at £l5 8s to £l6 16s pfet cwt (2# 9d io 3s per lb). Government unchanged at £l6 16s per cwt wholesale, 3s 4d per lb retail. Cheese.—Quiet trade on account of holidays. English £8 10s up to £9 7s per cwt (Is 6d to Is 8d per lb) for best farmers, Canadian firmer at £7 8s to £7 14s per cwt (Is 3%d to Is 4s4d per lb) for white; £7 14s to £7 18s per cwt (Is 4%d to Is 5d per lb) for colored.
"Hemp,—Manila market is easier, with very little business passing, ‘J’ grade values about:—October-December and November-Jan-uary shipments £56 per ton; January-March shipment £54 10s pdr ton. New Zealand market dull and qudtatiofas unchanged at: — Highpoints, spot, £54 per ton; DecemberFebruary shipment, £52 per ton; fair, £52 and £5O 10s per ton respectively.”
