J CENTRE TOURNAMENT I - SATURDAY'S PLAY. I s •' The customary New Year rinks tournament conducted by the Taranaki fowling Centre opened in New Plymouth on Saturday, when players were favored with beautifully fine weather. There were twenty-six entries, a slight increase over last year, and some keen competition resulted. Only in one Instance was a section won outright, this occurring in Section B, in which H. Smart registered four wins. Play resumes to-day at 9 o'clock. Sections B and D will play on Fitzroy green, and A and C on the New Plymouth green, with the . semi-finals and finals at Fitzroy. Details of i the. play to date are:— ! SECTION A.

THE WANGANUI TOURNAMENT. The Taranaki rinks reached the semi-finals at the Wanganui tournament, viz., West End (Beal) and Fitzroy (Rennell). The former was defeated on Saturday morning in the first round of the semi-finals by Pender (Paerou). DOMINION TOURNAMENT. SEVERAL TARANAKI TEAMS. Taranaki will strongly represented at the Dominion bowling tournament, which opens at Wellington on January 17th.
