The extraordinary scenes it contains—the sea storm, the wreck of the ocean liner and the use of the breeches buoy, the underworld scenes and the big theatre scenes—are all part and parcel of a great human love story. 1 It is a picture with scene after scene of beauty,thrill and floods of terrible passion—in nature and men and women —rushing tides of action, unsuspected depths of emotion.
