CHRISTMAS MESSAGES.
WORK AT THE POST OFFICE. During the holiday period the Chief Post Office, New Plymouth, had a bu»y time in connection with telegraphic mecsages and mail despatch. Figures show that the business was not quite up to last year in some instances. On Christmas Eve the number of forwarded telegrams was llflO, against 1129 last year, while messages received numbered 1427, compared with 1461 in 1910, Transmits (for countfy offices) were 1600, a decrease, last year's total being 1906.
For the week immediately preceding Christmas Eve the summary of business was as follows, last year's figures being given in parentheses: Telegrams ftfr-wardort.-245(1 (302(1); urgent, 122 (2S0); received, 3508 (4354); transmits, 3182 (4327).
