THE DAVIS CUP.
POSTPONED TILL TO-DAY. SINGLES THIS AFTERNOON. The Davis Cup challenge round between Australasia and America was to have commenced at Auckland yesterday, but owing to steady rain having set in the matches were postponed until today. Given favorable weather two matches will be played to-day, play commencing at 1.45 p.m. Brookes (Australasia) will play Tilden (America), and Patterson (Australasia) will meet Johnston' (America) in singles, the best of Ave sets. On the second day's play the doubles match will take place, and on the third day two more singles will be played, the opponents being reversed, Brookes meeting Johnston and Patterson playing Tilden. The match is decided by the best of the four singles and one doubles. ®
