By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dee. c i"\ 12.5 a.m.
Tokio, Dec. 23.
"»iseount Uehida, addressing preliminary meetings of the Diet, expressed the opinion that a new Japanese-American treaty would be concluded,' resulting in the nullification of the Californian land law. He added that in view of the sincerity with which the State Department, M. Shidchara and Mr. Morris were endeavoring to solve the problem, Japan refrained from protesting against the Californian law, but if the negotiations failed a formal protest would be lodged. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
Received Dec. 27, 5.30 p.m. Washington, Dec. 20. It is indicated that the new Japanese American treaty may negative the recently passed Californian anti-Japanese Jaws, but it is believed the same result may be achieved by laws prohibiting the ownership of land in California by aliens. This is expected to produce dissatisfaction on the part of many foreign interests who control oil lands and oilier pro-perties.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
