(By "Moturoa.") The Taranakl Jockey Club's Christmas meetlug, which takes place on Monday and Tuesday next, promises to provide excellent sport for Taranakl's army of Turf followers, and a fair number of outs.ides have also booked accommodation for the fixture. Fields should be satisfactory all round, and Mr. Bert Coyle appears to have set punters several difficult problems. Mr. A. Vincent will preside at the starting harrier, and Mr. J. Cameron will occupy the judge's box. Patrons, may rest assured that all a,rtangements—right from the first special train in <*o the last delayed train out—will be complete and right up to the standard set by the Tarnuaki Jockey Club Writing so many days before the meeting It is difficult to judge Ihe likely strength of the fields and the probable final condition of the runners, but nothing has occurred which has caused the ordinary follower of form to alter tie opinions formed when the weights appeared. In the open clhss a good number of horses have been paid up for in both (.istanco and sprint events, and several owners appear to be still undecided as to which race they will tackle. On Kcilding running. Depredation must strip as fit as any in the longer races, and Scrap o' Paper and Income have recent form to recommend them In the sprints. Amongst the hurdlers Diamond Nap and Ngakanni appear to he most reliable. A flue crowd of hacks will be seen out, and Stork, Empyrean, Maropa, Belle Noir, Irapuka and Vagrancepiece should all get into the money.
TURF TOPICS. The Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting opens on Boxing Day, and Hie best horses in tho Dominion will he racing at Ellerslle. Arrowsm'Jh, Chrysnstitoi, Gasbag, Humbug, Winter Wind, Nighlralder, Cotinterstroke, Winning Hit, Counter Attack and Going Up arrived in Auckland nn Saturday, and Gloaming, Vespucci and Rossini were exercised at Ellerslle the same morning. Add to the above list Oratress, Uncle Ned, First Salute, Red Ribbon, Prince Wlllonyx. Sunart, Silver Link, Gazique, Hynustra, Surveyor, Statuette', The Hawk, Mermin, Landslide, etc., and you have as line an array of "talent" as was ever seen at Ellerslle. It should be a great meeting. The Auckland Cup has closed with a final payment of fifteen, and possibly a dozen may go to the post. A keen Ellerslle tout informs me that First Salute Is in rare buckle, but It Is hard to treat lightly such good ones as Gasbag, Sunart and Slarland. Gasbag has not been a. lucky horse this season, but his luck may change next week. Arrcwsmith, if started, will have a strong following in the Railway Handicap, but 10.7 is a great weight to carry to victory In such a rare. If the champion tastes defeat, either Statuette, Humbug or the Kemhall elect may prove the upsetting element. Gloaming should beat Arrowsmith at nelght-for-age, and in the same class of event Gasbag. Mermui and Surveyor should also run well. The minor events will all draw big fields, and Toa Taua, Heather Sprig, Amberlne, Khartoum and Tinohoro appear to be as well seasoned as any. 1 Another mating at importance that sptni
