December 23. the Elthnm Progress Committee is making a special effort to get shopkeepers to revive the old custom of decorating shop windows for Christmas .Many business men of the town are cooperating with them in (lie effort . Tlic"el- - Cycle liaeing and Athletic League are putting up nearly £IOO in prizes. A farewell book evening was held in Mrs. A. O. Hemingway's musical studio on Tuesday evening to Miss Crump, on the occasion of her approaching marriage. A musical programme was given during the .•voninj, the being

particularly good. Items given by Mrs. Maurice Fitzgerald on the 'cello' were greatly appreciated. Mrs. K. B. llain Rang "Hello Tu-tu," assisted by a company of ladies, and as an encore gave the ''.Japanese Love Song." Miso Howden sang "Joan of Arc," the ladies being dressed as Red Cross nurses. Mrs. V. Wylds sang some humorous Scotch songs, which were greatly encored, and Miss L, Wilson's songs were appreciated. Mrs. A. 0. Hemingway was received with applause and sang at-her best, her rendering of "'lf Baccio" being exceptionally fine. Master Sim played the vioiin with a wonderful skill, and Master R. Irvine ' recited. Mr. T. B. Crump, in thanking Mrs. Hemingway for her efforts, said he had never soon such fine setting, and the whole evening was ono he would long remember. He was surprised we had such talent in Eltham. The evening concluded with a most en-1 joyable dance.
