CANTERBURY GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET. Christchureh, Dec. 21. Until after the holidays there will be practically .no business done in the grain and produce market, and there la little prospect of any impetus being given to the trade until next season's crops become marketable. Poulterers have absorbed tre supplies of fowl wheat, and as there is none available at present they have to be content with mixtures of oats, barley, and peas, or any other substitutes obtainable. A few more sales of oats have been made at 3s 3d, f.0.b., South Island, for B grade, and at 3s 6d for A grade Gartons, but the sales were so small that the above quotations cannot be accepted r:s a criterion of values. There It mud) speculation as to the prospect for oats neit year, and tie present Indications are-that the price io farmers will be only about 2s 3d or 2s 4d on trucks at country stations. Owing j to the dry spring, the Canterbury oat crppa are not likely to be as heavy its they were last year, and between Christchureh' and Ashburton many of the fields now ripening, appear .to be light. There ■is very little business doing la grasses and linseeds, and what inquiries do come from the North Island appear to be only "nibbles," In anticipation of the coming harvest.
