DISTRICT NEWS.

ROWAN. (From Our Own Correspondenl.) On Friday, 17th inst., the school year ended with sports and presentation nf prizes. Mr. Hollnnl was in charge of the races, etc, wtich were held in a field lent by Mr. Sattler, After the races there was a nut scramble, and then the parents and children were invited to the hall, where a sumptuous afternoon tea was handed round by the Indies. When the children had eaten as mucb as they could, Mr. Maindonald (chairman of the committee) presented the school prizes, every child in the school receiving one. Special prizes, Riven by Mrs. Maindonald for proficiency, were won by Eileen Smith and Roland Jackson. Mrs. Burrows gave a special prize for sewing, being* won by May Denham ; Mr. Uurrows one for the hardest worker, won by David Denlara; Miss Ailken prizes for general progress, won by ' Lenuie Mellow and Gwyneth Williams; .Miss James for regular attendance, won by Eileen Smith (senior, no misses), and Jean McCandllsh (junior). Myrtle Maindonald won the prize for general neatness. Arr. Maindonald then, on behalf of the public, presented Miss James, the headteacher, with a handsome brush and comb. \ Mr. Williams brought some fruit, nhlcb the i clflldren very much appreciated. | An amusing feature of the afternoon was I to see siraic of the wee toddlera (too amnU ! for school) march solemnly forward for their small hooks. Alter so much sickness It was very pleasing to hare a full muster of children. The committee and ladies who worked to make the entertainment a success should be gratified with' the result.
