WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Dec. 22. Tiie annual school concert took place in the Theatre Itoyal on Friday last, and the teachers and children received a bumper house. The takings were a record, reaching close ,on £53. I understand that the expenses will run into £2O, so there will be a surplus to be spent for the benefit of the children. It will suffice to say that every item was good and the children acquitted themselves remarkably well. During the concert prizes were distributed by Mr. WliKc (chairman of the Education Board), and accompanied with him on the stage were Messrs. Deare and Hosklns (also members), and Mr. Wyllle (headmaster), and T. R. Ford (chairman of the School Committee). The sixth standard pupils of the Walt.ua School who have finished their primary couise presented Mr. Wyllie (head teacher) with a pair of hair brushes as a mark of appreciation of his teaching. Tho headmaster congratulated them on having done, so well and wished them a successful career. The Waitara Fire Brigade held a one man competition on Saturday last for a gold and silver medal. The winners were: S. Crow (ser.) in 62see, 1; C, Limmer (lsec) In COsec. 2. A mart held last Saturday for funds towards the Soldiers' and Civilians' Club produced £ll. Mesdiules P.irdling, .Toll, Jaggs, and | Andrews were in charge. A ham donated i by Messrs. T. Borthnick and Son, was won j by Mr. 11.
