MARANATHA SIGNS OF CHRIST'S COMING: THK CHURCH SIGN. "-VTOW the Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy (1 Timothy, 4), If this Scripture had been written to-day it could not more aptly describe the new revelations and present-dny Apostasy. ' Possibly Sir Conan Doyle has deceived himself into thinking he has a new revelation, and that the spirits of the dead can communicate with living men; but we trust that few New Zealanders, if any, will be led astray. The Sydney Mail, of 24th November, says: "On outward appearances the advent of Sir Conan Doyle has brought more controversy than comfort. He has had large audiences in the Sydney Town Hall vastly interested in what he has said, but not showing they were inclined to accept the doctrines as propounded by the distinguished author." In the "New Revelation" it is stated: "Too much seemed to be made of Christ's death. Every religion has equally had its martyr, therefore the death of Christ has seemed .to assume an undue importance Far too much stress has been laid upon Christ s death, and too little upon His life. If this is not an expression conveying contempt on the work of Christ lve know not what it is. Our Lord' speaking of His death, said: "And 1 \ if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me." We remember hearing the late General Booth saying that lie defied any man to look*upon the Son of God with hands outstretched upon the Cross who did not feel drawn to be folded in those loving arms. The new revelations to-day insult the Son of God by classing Him as an ordinary martyr. In Sir Conan Doyle's "New Revelation" dt js admitted that the spiritist communications are not truthful for he says: "We have unhappily to deal with absolute .cold-blooded lying on the part of wicked and mischievous intelligences." A well-known proof of this is the late Mr. Stead's medium ,Pulia", who said that he would lie killed by violence in the streets of London; but he- was drowned in the Titanic. This was a big lie, at any rate. Lady Doyle shares her husband's beliefs, and is bringing up her children hi the new revelation,'says the Sydney Man and "thinks it dreadful that they should be taught hell and purgatory" Ihe old revelation, which was revived in the sixteenth century, shook all belmf in purgatory out of most Britishers. We beg our reiulera to shun all new revelations, and to give heed to the "Revelations of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto Him to show unto His serv-» ants things which must shortly come to pass." We believe that very many are being awakened to the imminent nearness of the coining of our Lord Jesus Christ. Sir Conan Doyle has been advertised as "the most eminent K u <r. lish man of letters to visit New Zealand." In recent years we have had a visit from Lord Bryee, but we presume that as this distinguished author accepts the Scriptures as inspired of God, on that very account his literary reputation has suffered an eclipse It his ever been that the Cross of Christ has been foolishness to the Greeks "Ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many might) 7, not many noble are called- but God liatli chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise"
