ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) December 18. The pupils of St. Joseph's School gave a delightful concert at the Town Hall on Friday evening. There was a large gathering of parents and friends, who showed keen appreciation of the various items of the programme. The orchestral selection, followed by an attractive item sung by the massed children, were well received. But the. tiny tots captivated the house with their action song, "Hush! Don't Wake the Baby." Miss O'Brien's son", "Driving Home the Cattle," drew forth the demand for an encore, and Miss Vicars' very successful step-dance took the fancy of the audience. "Bubbles," a very pretty chorus song with Masters \V. Sims and A. Nichols as soloists, the instrumental music by Master Sims, Miss Kemp and '.Miss Astbury, songs by .Miss MoMahoii and a piano duo rendered by Miss O. Bocock and Miss Astbnrv, were followed by a very pretty garlaiid drill by the girl pupils'. The second half of the programme was equally delightful. The boys distinguished themselves in their ' action song, "Coach and Four," and the girls recorded a success "in their song and diince. "THie Cooks." Instrumental music by the Misses F. Waters, I), and E. Sanderson, and by Master Sim and Misses Kemp, Miller, Power, Astbury and Sheehy; pianoforte and violin solos by Miss L. Quin and Miss E. Mnnnix; a vocal quartette by Miss MeMahon, M. Julian. S. Beadle, and Miss E. Mnnnix: and songs by Miss O'Brien were well received. An action song and dance, "Beautiful Butterflies," by the senior U'irls, and the singing' of "Advance New Zealand" by the mussed pupils brought a delightful programme to on end.
Great credit is due to Sister Virgil in Hie training of the children, and to Miss Toloby who sVige managed the concert. The Eltham Cricket Club played a match against workers at Messrs. Wil* son's Motor Supplies. Eltham won by 5 runs, the total scores being; Eltham 113, Motor Supplies 108. A concert was given at the Atlienium Hall by children of Misß Hooper's School. It reflected great credit on the pupils. The acting in the play, "King Alfred and the Cakes," was very praiseworthy, and the rendering of the character song, ."Summer Flowers," was made delightfully pretty by the dresses of the little girls representing various flowers, whilst the boys took the part of bees.
