HIDE AND SKIN SALES. , Nowton King, Ltd., reports:— We submitted a catalogue,of 1051 hides, 0186 calfskins, 3434 ahepsklns, and 124 tins of tallow. This was the first sale of sheepskins since the commander, and prices were disappointing and compared to that period, were from 10s to 12s each lower. Dry pelts and damaged skins realised very low prices. The market for tides showed a lower range of values and lightweight cow and ox are difficult to quit. Heavy and stout ok were eagerly sought after and brought good prices. Slippy and damaged hldeß were entirely neglected and sold at exceedingly low prices. Calfskins also allowed a sharp decline and tallow likewise. The hide and skin market is in a stagnant position over the \yhole world, with small chance of recovery In the near future. Tire range of prices was as under

Sheepskins.—Good crossbred 5%d, coarse 4%d short to half wools l%d to 3d, lambs 2Vfcd to 3%d, dead and damaged, Id to 2d, Baited 2s to 5s 3d, pelts 6d to Is 9d, lambs Is 3d to Is 6d.

Hides.—Stout ox 12d to 12% d, heavy lid to ll%d, medium 9%d to 10d, light 6%d to r%d, cut 4%d to 6%d, cow, teavy 6d to 7d, light Od to 6&d, cut 4%d, farmers' cows 4d to Gd, muddy 2d, cut and slippy %d, yearlings 4d to 7d. Calf, 61bs. and over, 7ft to 11 %U, r> lbs. and under lOd to ll%d, cut, 4%d to 5%d, cut and slippy 3%d to dry 3(1 to 6d each, slinks 4d to 8d each. Horse Hides, Is to 6s. The Department of Africulture has received the following cablegram/ dated December 11, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — "Meat.—Engllsh, trade slow but good tone; supplies of beef and mutton are heavier. "Wool Sales.—Buyers are-still operating from hand to mouth.
