THE STEWARDS' STRIKE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Dec. 16, The Ulimaroa, which was due to sail for Wellington to-day, is among the ships affected by the stewards' dispute. Her stewards' 24 hours' notice expired last night and, unless a settlement is arrived at, the indications are that her sailing will be postponed. The stewards on board the Cooma, Levuka and Arrawatta have tendered their notices and are leaving the vessels. Two on the latter left their post before the notices expired. It is stated that Sydney seamen will strike in sympathy With th* Tasmanian seamen, who are engaged in a dispute with the owners. STATE INDUSTRIES' RESULTS. Sydney. Dec. 16. The Auditor-General's annual report on 12 State-conducted industries shows that ten made a profit of £295,772, while two, including the trawling industry, made a loss of £100,458.° V V . VARIOUS ITEMS. Sydney, Dec. 16. Dr. Brown, formerly a Queensland Rugby forward and Rhodes scholar! has cabled to Air. Palmer, secretary of the Rugby Union, agreeing to . represent Australia on the International Rugby Board in London. ' Melbourne, Dec. 16. The Assembly increased the salaries of members from £3OO to £SOO. There were only two dissentinents.
