Sydney, Deo. 15, Professor McCallum, criticising tlie system of school examination, asked: "What is-the usg of a White Australia with a Chinese system of education by machinery?" He added it was a mistake to allot equal marks on all subjects, irrespective of their importance, and suggested a bigger armv of secondary .school inspectors, who should supervise the giving of certificates from the schools, which would conduct their own examinations.
