Inspector "Hendry, in charge of the Wanganui police district, paid his final visit of inspection to New Plymouth yesterday, prior to the Institution of a new police district with headquarters at New Plymouth. The new district, which .will take in all the Tavanalci province, and some stations in the Wangamii area, will be in the charge of Inspector Hutton, of Jfew Plymouth.
At the break-up ceremony in connection with the West End School held hist night, presentations were, made To Misses K. Rich (probationer), Q Biwhall and M. Barnes (pupil teachers), wiv are severing their connection with '.!:•■ school. The headmaster (Mr. ]>. I'. Evans) expressed appreciation of the work done by the young ladies, and regret that the conclusion of their probationary period necessitated their departure.
At the Wellington Education Board offices on Monday Mr. A. B. Charters and Mrs. Charters were entertained by the board's inspectors and stall' to mark Mr. Chartcrs's retirement from the inspectorate of the. Wellington Education District, which he has held since 1012. Mr. G. L. Stewart occupied the chair, in the absence of Mr. T, Forsyth, chairman of the board, and asked Mr. Chartcrs's acceptance of a carriage clock, suitably inscribed. The chairman, Inspector Bakcwell, and Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., paid high tributes to Mr, Charters as teacher and inspector, and also to his services in two wars, and in the field of sport. Hearty good wishes were extended to both guests. The directors and employees of the Dunedin Evening Star farewelled the Hon. Mark Cohen, M.L.C., on Friday last, on his resigning the editorship .of the paper, after u.ij years in the employ of the company. Mr. Cohen was presented with a gold "star" medal, a writing wallet, a gold fountain pen, and an album with the signatures of all the employees. High tributes" were paid to Mr. Cohen by Mr. V. E. Clapperton (manager), Mr. G. Buchanan (printer), Mr. T. ■ J. Walker (senior reporter), Mr. J. G. Moody (manager of the commercial department), Mr. W. Thompson (father of the "chapel"), and Mr. W. F. Alexander (editor).
