December 14. The monthly meeting of the Stratford Hospital Board was held to-day. Present: Messrs. C. D. Sole (chairman), R. H. Cameron, E. McK. Morison, and C. R. Finnertv.
The medical superintendent (Dr. D. Steven) reported that during November 31 patients were admitted, 23 were discharged, and there were three deaths. Twenty-three patients remained in hospital at the end of the month. Seven operations were performed under general anaesthesia. • There were nine soldier out-patient attendances. The isolation ward was closed on November 30.—Received.
The matron (Miss S. G. Beadle) reported that no applications had been received for the position to be vacated by Sister Burgess at the end of December. No were received for the position of general help.-»-Re-ceived.
Miss Myers, district nurse at Whangamomona, reported that 20 medical and surgical cases had been treated during Qctober, and 24 during" November.— Received.
The public health inspector reported that one case of tuberculosis, four of pneumonia and eight of pneumonic influenza were reported during November. —Received.
Sister G. Burgess, who received her training at the hospital, forwarded her resignation as from December 30.—The resignation was accepted with much regret, members speaking appreciatively of her services to the hospital during the years that she had been on the staff. A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs. Newton King, Ltd., for a donation of two bags of basic slag for the hospital gardens. The chairman reported that th» new nurses' cottage would be completed this week and would be ready for occupation before Christmas.
It was decided- that a sum not exceeding- £lO he' voted for special Christmas fare at the hospital. The matter o_f establishing a maternity ward at the hospital was held over indefinitelv.

Tiie half-yearly meeting of Court Suction! of Foresters was held on -Monday night, when a large number of members were present. The meeting was formally opened by Bro. R. Plows, C.R., and liro. J. D. Murray, P.D.C.R., then occupied the chair for the remainder of the evening's business.
The welfare of the sick war, dealt with, and showed a general decrease for the past six months. A number of members from other parts who made application for doctor's services through the Court were duly sent forward. Bio. (100. Burgees, who has been secretary of the Court for a number of years, tendered his resignation as from 27th ■December, owing to his leaving Stratford .shortly. The resignation was accepted with general regret, the older members eulogising the services of Bro. Burgess' secretaryship.
The election of officers for the ensuing six months resulted as follows: 0.K.. .Sister Edith K. Murrav; S.C.R., Sister C. Jl. Waticins; S.W.I Erb. H. Hatcher: J.W., Bro. C. E. Murray; 5.8., Bro. ,1. Stephenson; J. 8., Bro. G. James; Secretary, Bro. B. E. Plews. The installation was conducted by the chairman, after which by resolution of the Court Bro. Plews was presented with the P.C.R. neck ribbon .for past services, and was also elected as delegate to the district meeting to be held at Hawera in February next. The phnirman congratulated the outgoing officers on the steady and careful work done in the past term, and was assured that those taking up the responsibilities for the ensuing term would give a good account of their stewardship. He regretted the loss (o the. Court of Bro. Burgees as secretary, and trusted that his change to New Plymouth would be for the very best possible in the interest of himself and familv.
Bro. Hancock spoke of Rro. Burgesß' long residence in Stratford, and moved that the Court give Bro. Burgess a send-off and presentation. The matter was heartily taken up by all present and a strong committee formed, and it was decided to hold a farewell social and dance in' the Town Hall on Thursday, January fa, to which the public will be admitted.
GENERAL. The town clerk stated at last night's meeting of the Borough Council thnt the petition for a continuous telephone exchange in Stratford had been forwarded to the Department, and there was a probability of the continuous service coining into operation before long.
