AN APPRECIATION.

After the retirement of Mr W. A. Collis from the New Plymoulh Borough Council, steps were taken by his fellc\v numbers to have his long- public serviced rvcognised in tangible form. with the result that an illuminated address was prepared, for presentation to the c-x-Councillci.
The presentation of the address was made ye J onlay afternoon by the Mayor (Mr. F. E. Vv';ison) and Dcputv-Mayor (Mr. V. ,T. IM1). Owing to Mr. Colli?' state of lioalth, the address wan revived oi> his behalf by Mrs. Colin, to whom the speakers expressed regret that more public recognition of .such consistent, ii-r----vii'c could not have been given. The address was signed by the Mayor and Councillors, ex-Mayors, and exCouncillors, and read as follows;
"To W. A. ColUs, Esq., Dear Sir,—We tile Major, Councillors, exMnyors, and ex-Councillors of tlie Borough i f New Plymouth, desire on tie occasion of your retirement from the Council to express to you our appreciation of Hie Invaluable services rendered by you to tlie community during your long and honorable service as a member of the New Plymouth Borough Council. "Being first elected to the Council in the year 1808, you hare served, with varying Intervals, a period of approximately eighteen years, Including five years as Deputy-Mayor. "During the time you were a member (if the Council, and at all other times you took a loading part in every public movement for furthering tbe heat interests of the town and the welfare of the district as a whole. Your Iteen interest in beautifying the public parks of the town and your untiring efforts In ensuring the setting aside and the preservation of the beautiful natural scenery of the district, particularly In regard to the Egraont National I'ark, were such as to earn the highest appreciation and the deep gratitude of. your fellow citizens. "At all times and at all hours you were at tie service of the public with hearty goodwill and geniality, and by your self-sacrifice you have won the admiration, respect and esteem of the whole community, and have set a most laudable example of cheerful and willing labor In the service of others. "We sincerely trust that you may bo blessed with a speedy recovery from your present illness, and that you may long be spared to your family and to your friends In the full enjoyment of good health, prosperity, and happiness."
