HAMILTON RACING CLUB. The programme of the Hamilton Racing Club's annual meeting to be held on Wednesday and Thursday, February 16 and 17. appears elsewhere in tills Issue. It is of a very attractive nature, and is well worthy of the attention of all owners and trainers. The Hamilton Club is giving away stake money to the amount of £6150. The principal event on the first day, the Hamilton Cup, Is worth 1000 sovs , and on the second day, the Walkato Handicap is endowed with 800 sovs. The principal sprint event on each day is worth 550 sovs., no event being less than 225 sovs.

TURF TOPICS., (By "Moturoa.") Dannevirke races on Wednesday. Favorites had a bad spin at Woodvllle. Sandy .McDonald is on the up-grade now. "Bill" Emeny went down to see Paddington Green beaten at Woodville. Admiration runs on well, and should win a good handicap at Christmas. Stylish Lady, by Demosthenes—lney, Is a speedy mare worth watching. It blew like the deuce at Woodville on Wednesday, but Thursday was an Ideal day. Amberlne (Gray) carried a ton of the right money on Wednesday, but could only finish fourth. The Kendall cast-off. Scornful, won on Thursday, and returned his suppctrters a nice dividend. But for being interfered with by the riderless Hyttus, Vlglln would have been Iji and dried In the first hack hurdles at Woodville. According to the Manawatu Daily Times Martian ran third in tho Borough Welter, and Vagabond fourth in the Welter Hack Handicap at Woodvillel Gas Bag and Chrysostom appear to be well treated In the big Auckland double, but the trouble Is to get "set" w'Jthriut getting "settled." Hymarty proved at Woodville that she can run a good sefen furlongs, and when they back her again—in any company—she will win. The dogs were barking Wamba (Absurd— Cintra) in the Trial Plate on Wednesday, but the black gelding did not get out well, and that was the end of it Nursing Sister, on Wednesday, and Rouen, on Thursday, were a brace of red-hot favorites that disappointed backers in the open sprints at Woodville. Dunedln ran wretchedly at Fellding. and the public were not prepared for his reversal of form at Woodville on Wednesday. It is not often (hat one of Jack O'Shea's .mounts pays such a price. Tommy Rot, who made most of the running In the Nursery Handicap on Wednesday, and won easily, is another of the successful Absurds. He Is an improving two-year-old, and should be heard of at the holiday meetings. Desert Gold's two-year-old sister ran a decent fourth in the Nursery Handicap on Thursday, and'her victory on the second day stamps her as a good one. Kilgour was withdrawn In favor of Sunnrt

in the Woodville Handicap, and the latter was sent out a prime favorite. He won from end to end, and finished on the bit. ESperance has' been running verr consistently lately, and when she. followed Sunarl home in the Woodvllle Handicap she paid more than the winner. Dusky Pre" showed a glimpse of Us old form at Fellding, and on the strength of a brilliant mile gallop, was sent out second favorite In the Woodvllle Handicap. He was well placed in the early part of the race, but cut up badly at the finish. Marquetcur continues to run just well enough to keep up in the welghls, but lacks the requisite brilliancy to turn seconds and thirds into firsts. .If Gray cannot make him win it is a poor outlook for second rate Jockeys at the holiday meetings. Maloha, who h:fs been raced over all distances lately, with disastrous results to ills hackers, ran a decent race on Thursday, when he won the Gothard Memorial Handicap in hollow fashiou. He is not badly treated In the Manawatu Cup with 8.5. Arthur Oliver", who has just taken up training, led in a winner at Woodvllle on Thursday. This was Asterina, tte speedy four-year-old daughter of Merry Moment and Asteroid. Oliver has a good team of Mr. C. D. Beatson's horses to work on, and should quickly make good. Taraiwk! weights appeared yesterdar, and appear to be a good lot. Volo has his full deserts in the Christmas Handicap, and Dsrredation may beat him at an advantage of lOibs. A brace of likely lightweights are Voluble and Admiration, both of which' look like running out a good ten furlongs. Dribble should, on recent form, hold the topweights safe in the Flying Handicap, but Income, Crucelle and Scrap o' Paper, but Income, Cruicterestlng. Diamond Nap and Hnshman retd well in the Hurdles, but the race looks ff.lrly open. Stork, Empyrean and s>lto Tiro hate most to recommend them In the Stewards' Hack Handicap, and Flying Master Empyrean and Qulnlro in the Borough' Hack. Admiration has a bis load In the Welter, and Amber Tijvs, Plro -Pirn, and Vagrancepiece may be preferred at the weights. Acceptances for first day's handicaps close on Friday next. At the Woodvllle summer meeting this time last year Arrowsmlth 8.8 ran In an easy winner !,n the Flying Handicap from Sweet Memory 8.6, and Slntuette 8.11, and paid the best "price" of his career. Now we read of the imported horse running six furlongs in 1.12 2-5, seven in 1.25, and the mite In 1.39 2-5, In training, and provided l:e stands up he will give Gloaming a great "go" when they meet at Ellerslle. Viewed retrospectively, what a moral he was for that Flying Handicap at Woodvillel Prince Martian, who defeated the useful Pente in the Ruawhata Hack Welter at Woodvllle, is a three-year-old bay colt by Martian—Vicella, and in three starts last season lie won once, ne la said to be .in exceptionally good horse, and should so on winning. Maniatora's Fellding form cannot be accepted as correct, and he will come In for solid support In hurdle events at Awapuni at the end of the month. With 10.13 In the Tokomaru Hurdles he looks to have a royal show. Of the Manawatu Cup candidates, Volo Red Ribbon, Uncle Ned, First Salute, Marqueteur, Dusky Eve, and Crucello arc also engaged at other places on Boxing Day, and possibly the field will be a small one. Judging by Client's run In the St. Andrew's Handicap at Fellding. he will go well with' 92. Last year he ran second with 8.13, but he won't bo giving a stayer like K'.lrusb 11 lbs. this time. Some smart sprinters are weighted for the Fitzherbert Handicap at Awapuni. riiimera has done well this season, and Acre Is coming on fast. This pa'.v, and Statuette (If reserved), and Bonny Briar may all run well. Next Saturday the Tcranaki Daily News Christmas supplement will appear, and in keeping with the othl» departments, the sporting column will be well worth reading. "Morurna," will be let loose In a bigger paddock, and will tell readers about "Baring at Raupo Flat," etc, and the personal pars and pin pricks will make a crowd of wellknown "sports" sit up and take notice. Don't miss it!
