The death of Mrs. Richard Dickson in Auckland recently (says the Auckland Star) brings to mind an accident of over forty years ago. which caused the death of' Mr. Dickson at the Patea Heads. Mr. Dickson, with his two nephews, Messrs. W. and G Dickson, secured -in 1878 the first contract for improving the entrance to the Patea River. The work was almost completed, and the finishing touches were being given to the job, when one evening, just as the men were knocking off, Mr. Dickson noticed that one of the cranes was moving. With the idea of stopping it he ran forward and put his back against it. He. stumbled, and the heavy piece of machinery passed over one of his legs, almost severing it at the thigh. He remained quite conscious, and putup a brave fight for life, giving instructions in the absence of a doctor how his wound should be treated and bandaged. When tlj,fi doctor arrived two hours later the sufferer told him not to" bother, as he felt his life was quickly ebbing away, and to tell the people that his nephews would finish ths work,
