The proposal for the formation of a Nifii Co-operative Stevedoring Associatioa was considered by ths Auckland Chamber of Commerce ajr'a meeting to-daf. The«.followiug resolution was ,- passed "That tin.- Auckland Chamber of Con*. meice, while in sympathy with tke c* operation of labor and capital, is 4ppr4« U-nsivc of the proposed New ZealanS , Co-operative Stevedoring AMOCiati« upon the lines of an p;» lishou by the New Zealand WeUam League, for the following (Kj The agreem.r't has been arrive I it without any publicity being given* (jj) Tho agreement proposes a monopoly Of the handling of cargo, such monopoly to be under the control of •shipping panics and the waterside federation; (8) Wharves and plant for the handling of cargo and its temporary storagft aft public property, provided by publie money; (4) The fii'ing of wages, wal<s* must ultimately be paid for by the public is left solely in the hands of mono- 1 oly; (5) Competition for stevedoring fa' abolished; (6) both parties to tn* Mr*ment are under'suspicion of exploiting the public unduly and unnecessarillj wfcile one party is declared a support}* of the formation of a "Council 0» action," which is admittedly an attack upon constitutional government. TIM Chamber therefore calls upon the Got« eminent to inquire into the agreement and the terms of same, and demand* that the public, through Harbor Board*, the merchants, accredited labor unions, and any oilier individuals or bodies which can throw any light upon th.» question, be heard at such inquiry, which must he open to the public and th» Press of the Dominion. , .
