OUTLOOK FOR CHEESE.
! POSITION IN ENGLAND. NO CAUSE FOR ANXIETY". Hamilton, Monday. Recent statements in the Press concerning the cheese position in England are causing some uneasiness among cheese suppliers. Advices received by cable by the -New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co. within the last few days show that there is no cause for undue anxiety. There has certainly been a slight weakening in the cheese market in Great Britain, the fall in price being about a penny per lb. This decrease is duo largely to the exceptionally heavy British make which is now being marketed, and the present indications are that the fall is temporary. It is possible that cheese may pay slightly less than was indicated some months ago, but so far the difference in price is not sufficient to cause uneasiness. ' The first consignment of New Zcsland cheese manufactured this season wifl be shipped from the Auckland province shortly, but will not reach London until about the end of January. The bulk of New Zealand cheese, therefore, will not be available for sale in Great Britain until March and April, when it is anticipated that, a large portion of the British make will have been disposed of, and that New Zealand will have a fairly free market. To provide for contingencies in the event of a further decrease in the price of cheese the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company has considered the possibility of a change over from cheese to butter.. At the present time the position does not warrant this course, nnd the company therefore recommends cheese factories to continue as usual.
