FAMINE IN CHINA. By Telegraph.— Ties* Awn.—Copyright. Washington, Dec. 9. President Wilson lias appointed a committee to conduct a campaign for the relief of the Chinese famine, naming Thomas W. Lamont as chairman and Under-Secretary Davis as treasurer.
AMERICA AND JAPAN. Washington, Dec. f). Representative Kalin, from California, addressing the House of Representatives, said the people of the Pacific coast object only to large numbers of Japanese entering their States. They have no objection to the immigration of professional men, financiers or students. The question was not one of racial prejudice. Kahn declared that the Japan-ese-American relations were kept unsettled by Japanese agitators seeking to stir up hatred against the United States. He warned them that continued agitation might lead to war.
ROYAL DINNER. London, Dee. 9. Sir James Allen has cabled to the King explaining that as he is New Zealand's only representative at the League of Nations meeting he is therefore unable to attend the Royal dinner.
* THREATS TO MISSIONARIES. Tokio, Dec. !). The Japanese Foreign Office has informed the British Government that it disavows responsibility for the letter suit to the Canadian missionaries by the Japanese n'ilitai-y eommission (particulars of which have already been cabled). The officials oeclare the lctt.r wa9 the work of a single officer.
