A London cable states that Mr. Andrew Fisher has booked passages for himself, wife and family for Australia by the Omar for January 29. His Honor Sir W. Bassett Edwards, who ha 9 been presiding at the quarterly session of the Supreme Court in New Plymouth, leaves to-day for Wanganui, where he will take up the adjourned sitting. The King and Queen invited Sir James Allen and Mr Andrew Fisher, Agents General for New Zealand and Australia respectively, and their wives to dinner at Buckingham Palace on Monday to meet the Prince of Wales, and receive their Majesty's thanks and those of the Prince for the Australian hospitality extended to the Prince.— Press Cable.

Opportunity was taken at the dance at Kawaroa bungalow last night by members of the West End School Committee to make a presentation to their former chairman, Mr. W. W. Thomson, who resigned the position owing to his taking up farming pursuits in the Inglewood district. Mr. ,1. S. S. Medley, chairman of t)h e committee, referred to Mr. Thomson's valuable services in the interests of the school during his twelve years' connection with the school, first as committeeman, then as secretary, and later as chairman, and voiced tile regret of the members of the committee at Mr. Thomson's departure from the district. He then preseuted Mr Thomson with a handsome Morris chair as a mark of esteem. Messrs. S. G. Smith, M.P., a former member of the West End Committee, and W. J. Bennett, who has been associated witlv Mr. Thomson on the committee . for many years, also spoke in eulogistic terms, whilst Mr. I). P. Evans, headmaster, voiced the regret of the staff. Mr. Thomson briefly responded, remark-1 ing that lie had only endeavored to do his duty. > Ho paid a tribute to the work done by former chairmen, especially the late Mr. H. J. Gilbert.
