IMPERIAL MEAT.
LAST SHIPMENTS IN SIGHT. The last of the Imperial Government's meat is likely to leave the New Zealand stores before the end of February. Present indications are that the stores will be just about clear of this meat at the end of January or the beginning of February, but there may be delay in the loading of one or two steamers.
The insulated steamed that will load meat in New Zealand this month number sixteen, with a total capacity of 1,772,000 freight carcases, including one steamer to take beef for Britain, one to take beef for the Continent, and one to take meat for the United States. Twelve steamers, with a capacity of 1,241,000 freight carcases, are to load meat in January or February, including one steamer that is to load beef for the Continent
Some insulated space has to be deducted, for the carriage of dairy produce. The Shipping Committee is arranging for the shipment of cheese at the rate of 100,000 crates a montb, if this quantity is offering.
