ENGINEER'S REPORT, 'flic engineer (Mr. C. S. Whiteside) reported : King Road.—l' estimate the formation and metalling of, say, the first two miles from the Junction Road to cost £2OOO. In tne meantime maintenance work is required to remove slips, clear water-tables, remove blockage from watertables, and to trim up the road generally. This will cost £ls to £2O, and should be attended to as soon as possible. Main Road.—The length of road to lie metalled 13 aproximately two miles. On tfce whole the grades are fairly easy and little in the way of formation is required beyond the trimming up and preparing a bed for metal. An outcrop of good shell rock is found about half a mile from the road r.ear the eastern end, and conditions appear favorable for obnaininp a considerable supply. To confirm this a. proper amolint of prospecting is necessary. Should sufficient tunnelling und stripping contrm the existence of a lurger cjeifoslt of sMell rock there wou'-d then be a road to Tiialce 30 to 40 chain? la length with a small bridge- of about 20 feet span through private land. This would cost abcut £l5O to £2OO. When this was done I estimate the shell rock coulJ be placed on the road at 10s per cubic yard, or say fir the full job, £I6OO. AVaiongona-lti Bridge.—The concrete work of this bridge Is just about complete. When this is done the bridge gang will 3'art the other bridge north of this. I understand the setiters there will guarantee to find the necessary labor and render other assistance.
