The electric lighting conynittee o,f the Borough Council met last night for the purpose of considering applications for the position of borough electrical engineer. Twenty-one applications were received and four names were selected for submission to the Council next Monday night. The Stratford Racing Club has accepted the tender of Messrs. Salmon and Reeve, of Eltham, for the first large earth contract in connection with the Club's .improvement scheme. The tunnelling contract which was let to Messrs, Davis and Swindlehurst is well under-fway and may b<_completed in about a month. The whole of the work for the improvements is being done under the supervision of Messrs Sladden, Painter and Horner. Mr. A. C. Russ, borough foreman, lias tendered his resignation to the Borough Council. ' * There was a good attendance .it the Town 'Hall last evening, when the boys from the Eltham Salvation Army Boys' Home submitted an excellent programme. All the items were received with much appreciation, the gymnastic feats and musical items being heartily applauded. The school concert which is to be held in the Town Hall on Thursday promises to be as popular as ever, and active preparations are now being made to ensure its complete success. The sale of tickets is proceeding very Messrs. Lester Bros, have kindly con-i sented to assist with orchestral items during the evening. Particulars are advertised in this issue of a sale of household furniture and effects to be held at Midhirst on Thursday, by Mr. T. I. Lamason.
