Wellington, Last NlgMt At a nteeting of the Wellington Cricket Association to-night, the question of allowing military shirkers tp take part in cricket, matohes came op for discussion. The secretary utated that he had bo* approached by several returned soldier* who objected to a man who had b«n a military deserter and had been courtmartialled, playing club cricket. A member said that the committee had to face the question. There was no rule about the matter, and the committee could not take constitutional action. The matter was one for the club* themselves to deal with. He believed' there was a good deal of feeling ia respect to shirkers in his club, which h«d teams entered in every grade. About CO per cent, of the players were ' returned men and some of them carried wounds. If a man did not think it good enough to go to the front he . * should not he considered good enough to play cricket with men \vho had dote' then- duty to the countrr.
After a desultory discussion it was resolved that the various clubs be notified that the association. consWeru it undesirable that military defaulter* who had been deprived of their civil rights should be allowed to play crjeket under the jurisdiction of the Wellington Cricket Association.
