(From Our Own Correspondent.) The garden party and sale of work held In the. grounds of Mr. Wilkinson was 111 all respects a success. The proceeds, which are to be handed over to the Presbyterian Churd'. should reach a substantial amount. Favored with bright sunshine, the gardens were looking their best, and made a delightful background for the summer frocks of the ladles. The opening ceremony was performed by Mr. A. J. Hawken, M.P.
The stalls were well patronised. The ladies employed all the engaging arts "of successful saleswomen. Tie Elthaoi Pipe Band lent ail air of festivity to the occasion, and the promoters are to be congratulated on the success of the gathering. The Rev. J. A Hosking was elected se'cretary of the Methodist Synod of the Tara-uaki-Wanganui district, and representative at the Conferenoe and the Committee.
The dance hold at the Oddfellows' Hall on Friday evening was well attended, and the aancers were apparently well pleased with the success of the function.
The concert organised by the Bowling Club was greatly appreciated by a very largo alienee. Every ■ item of the programme wta well received. Each artist was encored, some receiving double encores. It would be invidious to attempt to suggest the item which gave most pleasure to the audieuce. The opening item, "Sunny Sicily", by the Egmont Orchestra, drew forth vociferous applause, 'and the audience was hardly less demonstrative after the rendering of tte encore, "Songe Adore". Prom this time to the end of the programme seemed one long round of enthusiasm, interspersed with delightful music. Miss Jenny Rae, In Highlan<Wdarices, and Miss Kathleen Mormont, In fair*dances, were well received. The humor of Mr. Wilson, Mr. Kanford and Mr. Fred Smith was captivating. Songs by Mrs. Walter Shlpton, Mrs. Hollands, Mr. Walters, Mr. Vivian and the Harvey brothers were delightfully rendered. The success of the concert was largely contributed to by the accompanists, Mesdames O'Hagan, Thompson, Feimell and Edmondson. The audience had apparently decided to make the most of a good thing, for it was close on 11.S0 before the vicepresident of the Bowing Club could rise to thank those who had imade the concert such an unqualified success.
The attendance at the general meeting of the Athletic League on Thursday evening was so small that it was decided to call a meeting on the, following evening, and to propose that the funds in hand be passed on to the Cycling Club. If this Intention Is carried out it is probable that the sports meeting on Boxing Day will be run by the Cycling Club. The Cycle Racing Club is holding a road race oil February 24, from Elttam to Waipuku tollgate and back. The firstl prize will be valued at £ls, and five other prizes will be offered. Particulars are advertised. The Opunake Bowling Club visited Eltham on Thursday and played a match with the local club. • Details are as follows (Eltham mentioned first): Tiplady, Jenkins, Hayes, E.
