ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
DEATH FROM A FALL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, La it Night. W. Fenton, married man, employed in A. S. Patterson and Co.'s grain factories, fell from the roof of the premises to-day. He suffered severe injuries 'and died in hospital to-night. DEATH IN CHURCH. , Auckland, Dec. C. William Lambert, aged 73, died suddenly in St. David's Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning. He unveiled the roll of honor during the service, and after saying a few wprds to the congregation returned to his seat, while the | hymn "Now the Laborer's Task is O'er" was being sung. On sitting down he fell forward and was carried into the vestibule. He expired soon afterwards. He had been under medical treatment for heart trouble. FOUND DEAD. ! Hastings, Dec. 6. A woman about 40 years of age was found dead on an" overgrown vacant section early this morning. On the body was found a bank book in the name of Ada Alice Coats, and a reference dated 1016 from the Grand National Hotel, Petone. The deceased was identified m having been temporarily employed at a local hotel under the name of Harris. DROWNED WHILE BATHING. Taumarunui, Dec. 6. Mary Thorpe, who was 15 years of age, only daughter of H. Thorpe, of the Public Works Department, was "drowned yesterday while bathing in the Ongarue River, near Taumarunui. She was evidently seized with cramp or heart failure, and suddenly sank in deep water while swimming beside another girl, who wag grabbed and pulled under, but got free and scrambled ashore. A number of other bathers were present, and, after a search lasting ten minutes, the body was located and recovered. Artificial respiration was tried Tor an hour arid a quarter without success. The- deceased had previously complained cramp. MAN KILLED BY TRAIN. Te Kuiti, Dec. 6. An accident, having a fatal termination, occurred on Saturday night at Hang&tiki, when a man named Edward Cuthbert Chare was found dead some ten chains from Hangatiki railway station. It is assumed deceased was struck by a passing goods train when he was crossing the line. Bv the accident deceased sustained a broken back and other injuries. At the inquest Mr. Burton, S.M., found that deceased died from injuries received through being Btruck by a train, no blaijie being attachable to anyon^.
