Apologies were received for the absence of Mrs. Lamp« louyb an«l Mr. Howarth. A hit'gc- amount of routine correspondence was dealt with, Messrs. Ryder and Malone attended llie meeting a? a depjiuliim from the TuranaUi Kugby XTnion to discuss alterations in the Oouditious of tho Bayly' Memorial Scholarship. It was decided to fall in with the views of the Rugby LVkhi to make the scholarship an athletic one, the qualifying educational standard being the proficiency «x----aminaUon. Mr. H. A. Stratford proposed that. tl:o Institute heartily supports the Itugby Union in is suggested alteration on the scholastic side of the Alf. Bayly Memorial Scholarship, and urges that the Education Department be approached to have the necessary changes gazetted, md that the Rugby Union be asked to recons.vier some of the events in the atlletic competition. This was seconded by Mr. W. A. Brown and carried. ' Mr. .T. W. Thomas proposed that the Rugby Union be asked 1 to confer with Mr. Lyall on the athletic events. Seconded by Mr. H. A. Stratford and carried. The matter of increasing the annual subscription owing to rising cost 3, was left to the discretion of the representatives at tlie j conference. 1 *»Fivo new members we're elected. A letter was received from Mr. T. A. 1 Hunter, school dental officer, stating that arrangements were being made to supply school committees witb fruit acid wash for tooth brush drill, either free, or at a very small cost. Mr. W. A. Curtevs proposed that the Institute place on record its appreciation of the services of Miss H. Lilley, lately retired from Stanley Road School, and Miss E. K Laird, who is retiring from Matapu School. Miss Laird thanked tire meeting for its vote. A letter was recel.vod from a near retiring age who left the service several years ago and later rejoined, and who now found thai his retain;; allowance is calculated on the year since he rejoined, instead of on the whole period of his service. Mr. T. Thomas proposed that the Department be asked t<« allow the whole of such teachers' service to count. This was seconded by Mr. Brown, and carried. It was decided to ask the Education Board to see that the Department's regulations re-
gardtng the treatment of inspectors' reports as strictly confidential are carried nut, They are not supposed to leave the sohool. The remits sent forward by.'the various branches for the annual conference was then considered for Hie guidance of the Taranaki repre-, soutatlves. !
Mr. u. J. Ilowarth intimated his inability (o act as a representative, and .Mr. K. L. Mcllroy was appointed .in his place.
