THE CHRISTMAS NUMBER.
SUCCESS OF THE COMPETITIONS. LARGE ENTRIES RECEIVED. The entries for the competitions in connection with the Christmas Number of the Taranaki Daily News, which will be published on December 18, closed on Saturday night. The success exceeds expectations, the entries running into the hundreds, and close competition is assured in each class. Entries have come from almost every town and settlement in Taranaki, while there are others from as distant as Auckland and the .Manawatu district. The short story competition has aroused remarkable interest, and the entries will occupy the judge for several days. The two essay competitions for school children have brought a prolific mail bag, not only in single instalments, but in bundles from many of the schools. The same applies to the frock competition, in which competitors have sent bulky envelopes containing patterns and lengthy instructions as to making, and these, as in the other competitions, present a formidable task to the judge. When all the entries were opened and divided into the different classes on Saturday night, they covered the tables and floor of one big room at the Daily News Office. The results will be announced'jh the Christmas Number, which will be. published on Saturday week, December 18. It will be a good number and worthy of the province."
