The sitting of the Conciliation Council will bo resumed at New Plymouth to-day, when the hotel' workers' agreement will be dealt with.

At Newton King, Ltd.'s, New Plymouth Haymarket on Saturday a fair number of pigs were penned, bilt prices showed a decided fall. Weaners real- - ised up to 18s, slips 28s, stores 34s fid. The question of holding the Winter Show was discussed at the monthly meeting of the general committee of the Taranaki A. and P, Society on Saturday, when it was decided that the fixture be held in 1921 providing sufficient support is forthcoming from townspeople.

A curiously shaped skull, and some bones, obviously ancient, have been found back of Whakatane. Dr. Buck supposes the remains are of a prehistoric race whom the Maoris called Ferneaters. He intends to make further exploration. He says that Whakatane is the most historic spot in New Zealand.

The postal authorities have received advice that the Manuka left Sydney at 2 p.m. on the 2nd hist, for Wellington, with a small English and Australian mail. The Westralia left Melbourne at 3 p.m. on the Ist for Wellington with Australian mails, including a few hags from Africa and the East. Both steamers are due at Wellington to-day. In 'the Juvenile Court, New Plymouth,' on Saturday morning, before Mr. T. A. B. Baily, S.M., two boys, aged 15 and 14 years, appeared to answer charges of breaking in all seven panes of glass in premises near their homes. The Magistrate admonished the boys on their mischievous spirit and entered convictions against them. The parents were ordered to refund 18s and lis respectively, being the cost of replacing the glass. The New Plymouth Girls' High School breaking-up ceremony and annual prize distribution will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Boys' School on Friday evening next at 7.45, when the Royal Humane Society medals and the Meath-.Empire Essay Challenge Cup will also be presented. The breaking-up and prize-giving in connection with the Boys' School will take place at 8 p.m. in the Assembly Hall on Tuesday, December 14. Professor Hunter, of the Victoria College University, Wellington, will be the speaker for this occasion. Members of the King Country Timber Workers' Union employed at the Egmont Box Company's mill at Ohutu, decided at a stop-work meeting to cease work on Friday night unless their demands were conceded meantime. In reply to the questions of an EKham Argus representative, the secretary of the company, Mr. N. E. Drayton, said the company knew nothing of what the men's demands were, except that they had written requesting the chairman of directors to meet three delegates from the union. He knew nothing more than this of the cause of the dispute. The chairman of directors (Mr. J. B. Murdoch) had arranged to go to Ohutu this week, and hud wired offering to meet the men, as requested, on Wednesday.

Advance's have been made in the wholesale prices of about twenty lines of English brands of fancy tobacco, varying from 9d to 3s 6d per lb. They do not include the more popular brands in use by smokers in New Zealand. Eight well-known brands of American plug tobacco have also been advanced by 7d to Is lid per lb, according to brand. No advance is reported in prices of cigarettes, excepting two brands of a special kind.

A party of four young men handed in one penny each to the collection box holders at Aotea gardens yesterday. The collection was taken on behalf of the Clarke Memorial Hostel. It was probably their idea of a joke, or was it an indication of their meanness towards an object that deserves public support? Intending exhibitors at the Spring Show of the Horticultural Society are requested to note that entries close tonight at tiie ofliee of the secretary, Mr. Val Duff, Devon Street (opposite the A.M.P. building). Emery Bros.' circus concluded its New Plymouth season on Saturday, when two performances were given 1.0 good audiences. The programme presented is an attractive one. The circus will now make a "round the mountain" trip, returning to New Plymouth in Christmas week.

Saturday will be. Nurses' Saturday in New Plymouth, when the nurses of the hospital will make an appeal to the public for £2OO for tile purchase of tiles for the new nurses' home. Special preparations are being made for a thorough canvas of the town, and stalls and other means will be employed to raise money. The nurses would be glad of any saleable article for their stalls.

Duffill read a short paper upon "The Training of an Architect upon the Business Side," and Mr. C. Reginald Ford one upon "The Essential Principles of Roman Architecture." Both speakers were -accorded a hearty vote of thanks fofr the papers, which, as was evidenced by the discussion which followed, were much appreciated by the members.—Chronicle. The attendance at Messrs. Sole Bros.' property "Aotea" yesterday afternoon on the occasion of a recital by the New Plymouth Citizens' Band, was a record for the grounds. Beautifully fine weather prevailed, contributing to a pleasant afternoon. A varied programme of selections was given by the .band under the conductorship of Mr. F. W. G. McLeod. . The collection taken up in aid of the Clarke Memorial Hostel netted over £2O.
