CARGO-BROACHING.
[ INDIAN SEAMEN FINED. By TelejMph.—Press Association. Ohristchuroh, Last Night. At the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court, before Mr. McCarthy, S.M., four Indians, members'of the crew of the British India steamer Gambada, were charged with cargo broaching, and two were jointly charged with the theft of two tins of camphorated ice valued at 4s. and two were charged separately with stealing two pairs of socks each valued at 4s, the property of the British India Company. In the case of the two former, one was seen to hand the tins to the other, while the socks Avere found in the possession of the other two. In finding the accused guilty, His Worship said that, in the circumstances he could not follow his usual rule of inflicting a term of imprisonment. The men were restricted immigrants, and in addition 'no accommodation could Hie found for them in the goal, owing to the difficulty of the caste rule regarding food. The men received a very low wage, IlOs a month, and each would be fined 40s.
