The managing director of Banks Commercial College (Mr. H. Amos) has just completed the purchase of a valuable city property known as the Warburton Estate, Nos. 98 to 102, The Terrace, Wellington, for the further expansion of this enterprising collegiate institution. With the adjoining property, purchased some months ago from Br. Adams, the college will now be situated on an acre and a half of land, with a frontage of 170 feet and a depth of 230 feet, in a most desirable locality, and commanding an extensive view of the harbor, and right in the heart of the city- There are four large houses on the combined properties, -which, with slight alterations, will be converted into classrooms, offices, etc., and be ready for occupation in the jSTew Year. The purchase price of the. property was £17,000. The growth of Banks College may be judged from the fact that it now comprises twenty departments controlled by forty tutors, into whose respective hands are entrusted primary, secondary, commercial and technical education, as well as the special preparation for accountancy, law, teachers'" entrance, matriculation, and all other entrance university examinations, in which the college has acquired signal success.
