STATE FINANCE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Ccpyrlclit. Melbourne, Dec. 1. The Budget in the Assembly shows that the revenue for 1919-1020 was £15,432,000, and the expenditure £15,228,000, the surplus being £203,000. The public debt at June 30 was 85 millions. The revenue for 1920-21 is estimated at £17,037,000, the'expenditure at £17,371,000, and the surplus at £IOO,OOO. Sydney, Dec. 1. In the Assembly, Mr. Lang said that , the new taxation is expected to raise '£1,651,000. It provides an increasing super-tax on all incomes of from 3d to 6d. a company tax from Is to 2s, an extra penny on all Incomes to £7OO, graduated for the higher incomes, and «n additional third on property in- . comes.

This party now demands the right to select the Lord Mayor, and, against the protest of the Municipal Labor Party, lias notified that aspirants to the Lord Mayoralty amongst Labor Aldermen must lodge an application with the Australian Labor Party. This municipal Lafoor rule is resented by a large body of ratepayers, who have formed the Civic Reform Association, with the object of ending the control by those who are alleged to be irresponsible, defending the rights of ratepayers, and securing effective representation.

A committee composed of the liparts of all the churches excepting the Roman Catholic has issued a manifesto denouncing the Government's announced intention of instituting' a State lottery. DEATH SENTENCE REDUCED. Sydney. Dec. 1. The sentence on Eugenie Falleni, the woman who dressed as a man and was sentenced to death for the murder of Annie Crawford, has been commuted to imprisonment for life.
