DAILY NEWS COMPETITIONS. ENTRIES CLOSE ON SATURDAY. Eutriea close on Saturday for the competitions hi connection with the Christmas Number of the Tnranaki Daily News, which will he published on Saturday, December 18. The interest aroused is demonstrated by the large number of entries already received, and the number coming to hand this week iudieatqs keen competition. From all parts of Taranaki contributory have sent their entry. At the latest, entries should be posted to reach New Plymouth by .Saturday night's mail, and should he addressed:' "The Editor, Christmas Number, Taranaki Daily News, New Plymouth." ESSAYS FOR SCHOOL pHILDREN. (1) Open to boys and girls up to IS years of age—Subject: "The Most Interesting Day in My Life." First prize, £2 2s; second prize, £1 Is. (2) Open to boys and girls up to 1(1 years of age. —Subject: "Sly Happiest Christmas Holiday." .First prize £2 2s, second prize £1 Is. Competitors must give their age and state the school they are attending.

A SHORT STORY. The Best Short Story of about 1001) words or less, open to any reader of tlje Daily News. First prize £3 3s. The editor reserves the right to use, for one issue only, any stovy submitted, the author to receive £1 Is. Our copyright for .stories used will only exist for this issue, but no story which has been published elsewhere will be considered. HOW TO WIN A FROCK. Competition for the best design of a shimmer frock suitable for a girl of !' t,o 12 years. Prize: An order on any dressmaker in Taranaki for a frock made in accordance with the winning design. Tn this competition it is not essential that sketches should be submitted, though this will be helpful to the judge. Competitors should, however, give very full details of how to make the frock, how much and what material ia employed, and how much it will cost at today's retail prices. The prize will be awarded for simplicity of style and economy in material and labor. This competition ia strictly limited to amateurs, and the editor reserves the right to reject any entry without stating his reason.
