THE POLICE FORCE.

A BIG RE-ORGANISATION. The police force of New Zealand is shortly to undergo important changes, involving extensive re-arrangements of the various districts throughout the Dominion. In consequence of this the Minister for Justice, the Hon. F.. P. Lee, has authorised a statement selling out in detail what is proposed. In the first place it has been arranged that the jurisdiction and control of the four superintendents—"Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunediu—shall be extended considerably. At the present time these officers' exercise control over their own districts in the same way as inspectors, and their duties have hitherto been in no way different to those of the ordinary inspector. The superintendent at Wellington is now to exercise control and supervision over the districts of Wellington. Napier, Wangflnui. and New Plymouth; the superintendent at Auckland is to have under his control the districts of Auckland, Whangarei. Hamilton, and Gisborno; the superintendent at Christchurch is to exercise supervision over the Christchurch, Timaru, and Greymouth districts; and the superintendent at Dmieriin is to have his jurisdiction extended to the district of Invercargill in addition to tha Diiuediu district-
