Wilson, nest Union Bank, WOMEN'S NATIONAL RESERVE. ANNUAL MEETING. November 30. Tlie annual meeting of the Stratford branch of tlie Women's National Reserve was held in tlie Municipal Chambers yesterday afternoon. The Mayor (Mr. .1, W. McMillan) occupied the chair and there was a good attendance of members. The annual report stated that much useful work had been done during' the year. The annual conference of the Reserve was held in New Plymouth and was attended by the secretary. A donation of £2 2s was given towards a presentation to Mrs. Porter, the reserve's organising secretary, who had done much useful and valuable work in connection with the reserve. The sum of £1 Is was sent to Wellington towards the Nursery Fund, a most deserving institution. The reserve, as usual, took charge n f the decorating of the roll of honor and placing wreaths on soldiers' graves on Anzac Day, and were ably assisted by children of the Stratford District High School and St. Mary's Girls' School. During the year the Stratford branch of the reserve affiliated with the Women's National Council, an organisation whiclt was doing splendid work on behalf of the women and children of New Zealand. Miss Messenger was acting as delegate for the reserve at the Women's National Council meetings, and gave the reserve a good deal of valuable information. Dr. Doris Gsrdon again willingly gave up her time to give a series of lectures on similar lines to those given by her last (veatf. The reserve had tried without success to obtain a rest room in tho town, but no rooms were available for the purpose. The reserve assisted the "R.S.A. with their annual ball, being in charge of the supper room and assisting in other directions. On July 20 Mrs. McMillan resigned her position as president of the reserve, members speaking in high praise of her work on behalf of the reserve. At a special meeting held later Mrs. Martin was elected president, and Mrs. Hollands vice-president, tlie latter filling the place made vacant by Mrs. Martin. Two mothers' afternoon teas were held during the year, the last one on November fl being tho annual tea. A good number of mothers and wives were present, and all seemed to enjoy a pleasant afternoon. One mother and one wife received badges. During the Prince of Wales' visit an opportunity was given to all mothers and wives who had lost t=ons and husbands during the war to meet the Prince. The reserve was in charge of the arrangements in the Council Chambers. Tho thanks of the reserve were due to the Mayor and Councillors for according the mothers and wives the opportunity of meeting tlie j Prince. The reserve had promises of quite a number of new members for j the coming year, and hoped to show good progress in all directions.

The balance-sheet, showed that the latest receipts, including £9 09 4d brought forward, amounted to £l4 8s rWd, and the expenditure to £l3 lis 7d. leaving a credit balance of ITs 3d.

The report, and balance-sheet. were adopted. The Mayor congratulated the reserve on thi! splendid work it had accomplished (luring the year, and expressed the hope that it would keep 011 with its activities.

The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: I'ptrem, Mrs.".!. B. Hine; president, Mrs. C. Martin; vice-presidents, Mesdames E. F. Hollands, R. Masters, C. M»ssey, 71. E. Abraham, and W, H. Robinson; honorary secretary' and treasurer, Mrs. T. Cuthbert.

The report of the reserve's delegate on the Women's National Council, with reference to nominating women candidates for municipal elections, was referred to the executive for consideration.

Votes of thanks were passed to all who had. helped the reserve in any capacity during the year, to the Borough Council for the free use of the Town Hall, and to the Press. GENERAL. The" Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan) has received the following personal lettei from Lord JeHiooe: "I am writing on my return to Vyelliugton to tell you how greatly her Excellency and 1 enjoyed our brief visit to Stratford, how deeply interested we were in fhe agricultural show, how much we appreciated the cordial welcome of the inhabitants of Stratford and surrounding districts, and what a pleasure it was to us to meet so manv of them. I would also like to thank you for the arrangements made for our reception." ' The president of the Stratford A. and P. Association desires to apologise to the general public who visited the recent show for the misunderstanding which occurred in connection with the hot water supply, and states that to prevent anv future recurrence"of the trouble it is "the intention of the association to erect a permanent, building for the convenience of picnic parties. The vital statistics for the Stratford district for November, as supplied by the registrar, Mr. S. H. James, are as follow: Births ID, deaths 3, marriages 4.
