THE POTATO MARKET. . Bjr Telegraph—rrets Association Ttmaru, Last Night. TTie South Island Potato Growers' Association, with a membership of about 500, has appointed Mr. T. BUiton, wl'O recently visited Australia regarding > the embargo, managing agent and organiser of their cooperative selling scheme, Sir. Buxton to commence as soon as possible. He will push the organisation among growers and arrange for marketing. The association Intends 10 assist growers In production and selection for the market. Purt of his duty will be to keep a hand on the pulse of the market and avoid Injudicious shipments. The Agricultural Department promises adtlee and assistance oa condition its convenience is considered. HIDEB MARKET. Chrlstehurot-, Last Night. A sale of bides was held to-day, but the bulk of the catalogue was passed in. Values obtained were much on a par with those ruling at recent North Island sales. Although tanners were well represented there was no animation in the market, and some lots did. not elicit a bid, thla being noticeably the case with anything slippy or cut. Prices to-day were: Ox hides 10% d, cow hides St, yearling hides 7d, calf hides 12d.
