WAI-TOI-TOI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of tire M'imi School Committee was held 011 Tuesday evening last. Present,— Messrs. ,1. Ross (chairman), J. Phillips, J. Cannon, p. Spurr, and G. Baker. Hie inspector's report 011 the recent examination was read as follows :—Rca<lliig, very MieHing, St. 1, si, 5, fair; Su 3> very t'lir; St. 2, gooil, Si. 4, very good, St. li, excellent. Buildings and grounds: The building consists Of two rooms, one of whicli lias recentlybeen added. The present teacter is working under difficult conditions, being compelled to divide her pupils (50) between these two rooms, thus making the supervision and instruction exceedingly awkward. If, however, the attendance keeps up the school will be entitled to an extra teacher who, under the special circumstances, should be appoints at the earliest passible opiportun ty The results of the examination show that the teacher is using modern and up-to-date methods with commendable skill and earnestness. The conditions, however, under which she has worked during the last three or four months have considerably nillicated agajist the progress of the pupils. The accommodation In the old room was so limbed that seating arrangements could not be obtained for several of the pupils. To this may be added the noise necessarily made ,n connection with ttie building of (lie new room, and it can be imagined how the, circumstances must have Interfered with the teacher's work.

3illker reported having procured the necessary posts for the proposed fence round .1 e school, and it was agreed t.o secure labor to do the work as soon as possible. The matter of procuring prizes for the childi"! tiff. J ? i l s ™, sied ' 11 wm eventually ajreed that Mcsdanies I'. Spurr and J. Phillips (0 . nether with the teacher (Miss Nolan) be asked to select suitable books, it was decided to make application to the Board for an assistant teacher, as the attendance was so largely moused that the work was too much for one teacher.

I understand it l as been suggested bv Mr. "■ I igott (chairman of the Clifton Countv Council) that one of the two guns presented ,L T , V T Defenci ' Department should be erected in the Urenui s-1.00l grounds. This, wi(h the handsome memorial 'olumn already erected in the cemetery, wil. sene as a iilstorie.il memento of the Great Hjir in years to come.
