Queensland, commenced on the Exhibition ground in glorious weather. Seven thousand were present, and the wicket was good and hard. Queensland batted first. The brightest feature was the stand of Moore and Oienliani. Moore hit six fours and one six in 104 minutes. Bushell and Makepeace, for England, faced 0 bowling attack by MeAndrew and Ayres. Victoria's first Innings produced 310. NORTHERN DIVISION. SATURDAY'S GAMES. Tire opening of the Saturday competition In North Taranakl took place in splendid weather on Saturday afternoon. On the ltecreation Grounds, New Plymouth North and South teams met, the result being a good majority tot South, who got 182 against their opponent's 01 (for 8 wickets). At the Racecourse, the Old Boys team beat the High School eleven. Their first innings netted 114, the School getting 80. In the second Innings Old Boys declared for 83 with three wickets down. High School had reachti 30 when stumps were drawn. NORTH v. SOUTH. The most successful batsman of the daywas J. Heskett (South), who had reached 20 when he was caught off a ball by Palmer. Others in the South team to score double figures were W. Hughes (31, not out), G. H. Saunders (20), and A. Morrison (19). Of North's total Qf 61, Mac Donald made 25, when hs was run out, Bowling for South, G. Clarke secured four wickets for 31 runs, and lieveiley got 3 for 6. For North, Carey got 4 for 49.
