ENTERTAINMENTS.

LEATHAM-SYMONS RECITAL. Miss Constance Leatham and Misa Ava Symons, who are at present engaged in a concert recital tour in the North Island, appear in the Empire Theatre, New Plymouth, to-morrow evening, when a very high-class programme of classical music will be presented by these two talented young artists. In a critical notice of their concert given in Christchurch last week the Sun said:— Miss Leatham fully deserved the flattering reception accorded her. Excellent musical taste was evinced in the compilation of the programme, of which the Schubert-Liszt work, "Soiree de Vienne," was perhaps the most popular. Schumann's difficult "Symphonic Studies" in no way tried the pianiste's powers, and Liszt's "Second Polonaise in E" concluded her programmed solo numbers. With Miss Symons, Miss Leatham played Grcig's "Sonata in Q Major," for violin and piano, with a fine sense of balance and harmony. Miss Ava Symons' choice of numbers was varied and in'* teresting, including the brilliant "Preludium and Allegro" (Pugani-Kreisler), played with much' delicacy and yet strength; "Kol Nidrei" (Max Rruch), and the "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso" (Saint-Saens). The programme for to-morrow's oon* cert appears in to-day'a issUe.
