It is estimated it will cost two millions sterling to stamp out typhus in Poland alone. The League's appeal for subscriptions only reached £220,000, of which Germany contributed a million paper marks. Dr. Madson, a Danish member of the international mission, giveß a distressing account of affairs in Poland. He found every house in some villages iufeeted with six or seven cases. The difficulty in combating ffhe epidemic was the lack of isolation hospitals. Both typhus and cholera were epidemic, over the whole of Poland. Cholera victims died within twelve hours of taking the disease. The clean parts of Europe were greatly menaced, therefore the outbreak was of international importance. Sir James Allen, addressing the second commission, which deals with the subject of hygiene, said he had communicated tho details to his Government in the hope that the people of New Zealand, with the Government's assistance, would render help.—Aus.-N.Z.
