ENGLISH JOCKEY HURT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn Copyright. Received Nor. 26. 5.5 p.m. London, Nor. 25. Bullock, Tidinp Kerasos, sustained a heavy fall In the opening race at Manchester. He was badly shaken, and injured Ills face.— Aus. —X.Z. Cable Assn. RACING AT ASHHURST. (By "Moturoa ") Fine, but boisterous weatTier prevailed on Wednesday on the occasion of the AshhurstPohr.ngina annual meeting, and a large crowd assembled on the old convincing ground near the Gorge. On the whole the sport provided was not bad. though several usually smart runners performed no better than could bo expected with the feilding. Woodvllle, and Manawatu big stakes looming ahead. The good sum of £ 2ti,172 was machined! as against £20,360 last year. For a change "form" worked out admirably, for penalties incurred at Lovin by Orane, Esperance, Nursing Sister, and Admiration failed to halt their victorious march, wh.fle American Beauty's win was forecasted by her previous week's running. Still, punters were generally in a quandary, and onlyjone actual first farorite scored. It was inexplicable. Although the scratching pen was busy before the Hactf Hurdlps, a good flilld of eleren went to the post, Diamond Nap (McBrearty), Orane (Bowden), and Master Boris (Burt) being best backed. When the field settled down this trio were in front, Diamond Nap setting a. hot pace. Orane had a plug at the leader Ave furlongs from home, but could not go the pace. Diamond Nap was tiring in the straight, and a bad jump at the final obstacle settled his chance, and allowed Orane to beat him home by less than a length. Master Boris, who seems only capable of the one pace all the way, was a fair third, with the Finland gelding Grange next. Manhattan's showing was very poor. Silver Link, Nursing Sister and Rekanul dropped out of tte Pohangina Handicap, and Rouen (Barry), Sweet Memory (A. Reed), and Raceful (O'Shea) carried the money. Sweet Memory, who was .Teported to have been backed for big money away from the course, hopped out In front and turned the race into a dlsplnting procession. Raceful was second, just in front of Rouen, but neither shaped well enough to cause much enthusiasm. Punters were right on the spot when they sent Hymarty (E. Manson) out an odds-on favorite In the field of a dozen wWch contested the Flying Hack Handicap. The /Avnr't* away, and won easily

from Beloved (who paid more than the win l ner), Mumble, and Spare -Moment. Of the thirteen carded for the Ashhurst Cup only eight went to the post. Tari, possibly on the strengh of having Ashley Reed up, was better backed tl an Rose Pink (L. Morris) and Miss 'Maid (J. O'Shea), while Esperance (J. Barry) was cniy fifth choice. It was a sterling contest. Tari led Sir Fanciful and a bunched lot to the turn out of the straight, where Athens 11. rushed to the front. Ladify went up to the leader along the back, and Lady Energy and Esperance improved their positions. All were bunched below the distance, hut Atlens 11. had been collared by Lady Energy, and Hose Milk, Esperance and Sir Fanciful also finishing strongly. Over the last fifty yards it was a ding-dong struggle. Hose Pink and Lady Energy, in * the middle of the course, were in line, and the rails was also having her name (failed. The trio dashed past the judge practically in line, and a sheet would have covered the crowd. Mr. J. Cameron's verdict was awaited breattlessly, and he promptly decided in favor of Esperance, with Lady Energy second, and Rose Pink third—heads between the lot. The exoitemont apparency cwnnrunlcjated It'sejf to the jockeys, for Morris, Barry, and one or two others were inclined to dispute the decision. As a result Morris and Barry were each fined a fiver, and McDonald, the rider of Lady Energy was severely cautioned. Martian Miss (O'Shea) was a popular order in the Komako Hack Handicap, but the good tiling came undone. American Beauty beat the favorite out of the tapes, and tie pair ri.n in that order to the finish, the Demoshenes mare staying on quite as well as the daughter of Martian, and returning' a limit dividend, while Martian Miss's backers got less than their money back. Goolwa was a fair third, just in front of Mokattam. Blackhead and Amber Tips, who wc-re both heavily backed, got away badly, and Potomea was left standing. Punters were again all astray wl'cn lliey sorted out Merry Queen .(Merry MomentMint Queen), Lady Illma (Martelln—Handsome Jack mare), and Sandy McDonald for the Maiden. Merry Queen was first away, but Jackaroo (A. Kced), Siberian (Wallace Young), and Miss Elva (K, Heed) i]uickly ran to the front. Jackaroo and Siberian, after a close run, finished in that order, with Miss Etva some distance back just in front of Sandy McDonaldl. The v.'i tin or is a three-year-old bay colt by Hymettus—ldeala, and the runner-up. Siberian, a three-year-old chestnut gelding by Hallowmas—Oka. Siberian, is owned and trained by Miss f!. Barrett, of Feilding, who rides liira in ills work. The young lady is said to have profited considerably by the fine second dividend her lorse returned. If be had won he would have paid nearly half a century. Honey Bee (R. Iteed) was just a trifle better backed than Nursing Sister (A. Reed) in the Itnumai Welter, and Kemb.ill's bracket (Rekanul and Vasllkof) were nest ia ord-*r of favoritism. Nursing Sister was first out. and though Gold Problem, Vasllkof and Honey Bee all tackled her in turn, ran h. an easy winner. Old Antwerp was never sighted. Racing concluded with the Gorge Hatd'cap. for which the much boomed 01 iti, by Californian—Belle Agnes, had just ,t sligh. call over Ilutoke and Admiration, 'UI carrying over a thousand. Hotoke led to the distance, where Admiration and Ohitl sprinted to tl-e front, the half-sister to Estlionln winning easily. It was a slow race, ruu at a muddling pace In the early stages, and this certainly made It a moral for Admiration, wl-o returned a very fair dividend. TURF TOPICS. Bymarty's ha.f-brotlie", Karamu, by Wolawa—Marty, Is said to bo the be.it : hrrf • year-old in Queensland this season. lis defeat by Seronilst In the Pcrby was a fluke, and he easily beat the Seremond horse in the Queensland Cup a few days late, the race was worth 1400 sovs. and a trophy valued at 100 sovs., and Kariimu beat bis forr f een opponents pointless !n fl ii% for the two miles. Ashley Reed was In good form at Astimrst on Wednesday, rising three firsts and a second. W. D. 'Voung won twice, and W. Bowden, E. Manson and J. Barry each saluted once. Ksperanee did a lot of racing last season, and won three races. Including the Nelson Cup, but just when she ripper.red to be on the point of making her mark in belter company she lost form. Now, as a four-year-old, she is doing tlpnss again, and being a full-sister to Sunbird, Ardenvhor and Mascot, she may be capable of accomplishing anything. Wat price this? The Northern Wairoa Club offers £I2OO in stakes, £2OO of which will be divided amongst owners of unplaced horses, at the forthcoming meeting. Now, at last, will some, horses win a prize I golden Slipper, sold to Messrs. H. and V.' White at the stead dispersal sale for 5000 pis., raino Into the limelight recently, when two of. ( her progeny won races at RoseliUl. Golden Cello, by Montecello (imp.); and G dden Bronze, by Bronzlno (imp.), won the Maiden Handicap and the Itoseiill Handicap respectively. Both carried the colors of their breeders. |

Mr. MacManemln's weights for the Auckland Cup are not likely to please many people, and It Is safe to say that there will not be many decent stayers remaining in the race on Boxing Day. Oratress has caught it hot with 9.2. considering that with K. 6 it took her all i er time to beat moderates like Imarlbbon ami Bengeroop in ilie New Zealand Cup. Volo Is flattered with 8.13, is actually asked to give Vagabond weight 1 The last-named is well enough treated, as in Kilrush (8.11). Gazique "is staying better now. and with 8.9 does not read badly. Snub (B.C) miust surely lie a spent light, but First Salute (8.4) Is' a promising stayer. Tenterfleld proved In the Metropolitan naudlAp that his Cup running was all wrong, and if caught in a galloping mood might prove very hard to beat. Red Ribbon, though an old stager, ia well n with 8 2, and she will beat more than will beat her. Of tho lightweights nothing is so well treated as Delight (7.0). ArromjmMliV. f-Vcwa-,rds* Handicap victory has earned him tho load of 10.7 In Railway Handicap, and though quite capable of Kindling tliat weight with distinction, il seems hardly likely that he will be called upon to tackle such a formidable task when there are softer things offering elsewhere. Silver I.ink (9 3 and Rossini (8.12) are handicapped right up to their best form, which they may not be forward enough to reproduce at Christmas. G.izlque Is favorably treated with 8.11, and should beat Inah al a difference of llh. Parisian Diamond 83, Hymestra 8.1. Chrysostoni 7.13, Prince Will onyx 7.11, and Crowhurst 7 1 should all have chances, and of the quintette Chrysostoin fnay be tho one most capable of improvement. Nominations for the Taranakl Jockey Club's Christmas meeting close on Friday, Doe. 3, at 9 p.m. The programme Is advertised in this issue.
